Hello,

Over the past month or so we’ve been working on our new design and today I’d like to give you an idea of what it will look like when released.

So, without further ado, here it is… please read my comments after the screenshots as well, to get a better understanding of what we’re doing…

MoneyWiz 3.1 for mobile (iPhone and Android)

MoneyWiz 3.1 for Desktop (macOS and Windows)

Here are a few things to know:

  1. Only the mobile versions will have a major redesign both UI and UX. Desktop will see a smaller redesign as you can see.
  2. With the Desktop redesign we’re aiming to provide more space to see more accounts and budgets in one screen without scrolling. We’re also giving you more space to see reports in more details.
  3. For Mobile we’re introducing a brand new interface (UI) and workflow (UX), while keeping similar concepts to MoneyWiz as you know it. Our goal is to make using MoneyWiz faster, easier and more intuitive without making it hard to re-learn how to use it, so a lot of what you know is already applicable, just improved.
  4. Have in mind that the final design will have differences from this sneak peek. We’re at least one month (if not more) away from releasing it so changes will be done as we progress.
  5. We hope to release MoneyWiz 3.1 for Premium subscribers before the end of August (Reminder: MoneyWiz 3 Standard is coming in December 2018).

Here are a few neat things about the new UI/UX on mobile:

  • The entire navigation is redesigned around a bottom bar instead of menu. That would allow you for faster access to different sections in the app.
  • Since we had to introduce a bottom bar for navigation, we had to get rid of the bottom bar for balance, so we put that at the top. The top area now takes a center stage with showing you relevant information and controls depending on which screen you are on.
  • Notice the differences when you are in a specific account. Depending on the account type you will either see filter buttons – Cleared/Pending/Scheduled or buttons to switch views. So for non-investment and non-forex accounts you’d see the filter buttons. For investment/forex/crypto accounts you will see 3 sub-sections – Chart / Portfolio / Trades.
  • I’d like to take your attention to a brand new feature that comes with the new UI – the “Scheduled” filter – when selected it will show you the scheduled transactions for that particular account so you can quickly see them and see how they will affect your account’s balance.
  • The budget indicator has also been redone to be more intuitive and simple – it will now be a green circle that fills in red as the budget gets filled.
  • The cleared/pending flags will go away now and will be replaced by a red dot in the icon for pending transactions, no dot for cleared (so that color blind people can also tell the difference) and grey dot for Scheduled (if that filter is selected).
  • We’re getting rid of the Dashboard section as it was rather unpopular.
  • Clicking the “+” button will now give you options to select transaction type. This is to mitigate the fact that in time we’ve added more types of transactions which were previously “hidden” under the 3 dotted button in the current/old design.

Any feedback is welcome 🙂

Thank you for being a MoneyWiz customer!

  • I’d suggest getting a proofing team to review your text before further publications… “Expense” has an “s”, not a “c” (you’ve got “Expence”), and I presume “All transitions” is supposed to be “All transactions”?

I’m amazed at the effort you’ve invested to make “pending” and “cleared” more visible for color blind users… while at the same time, making budgets much less useable (green circle filled in with red… really?)

Please also consider some kind of “compact” view for transactions. Your screenshots show that now we’ll only see 5 at a time – on my iPhone 7 with MW2, I see 10 transactions at a time, so that’s a huge step backwards for me.

Finally… why on earth would I want to have a picture of myself at the top of every screen? I do know who I am…

    Reply
    • Hi Nick,

There is no “Exence” in the text and also no “All transitions”. Where do you see those?? By all means it’s past midnight here but I think I did not make these silly mistakes 🙂

As for the compact view – we’re experimenting right now actually, for the same considerations. Let’s see what happens.

Budgets – noted. If a lot other people report this we’ll figure something out.

Icon on top – well, there has to be something otherwise it will just be dull. Any better suggestions?

      • In the first mobile screenshot near accounts label there is “All Transitions”.
In the last mobile screenshot the first label of segmented control is “Expence”

        • Oh, in the screenshots… apologies for that. I will let our designer know. In any case the screenshot from mobile is actually design prototype (mockup) and not actually from the app itself. In the app itself it uses our current strings so it is properly translated.

      • “Expence” and “All transitions” are in the first and last mobile screenshots.

        Reply
        • Yup, saw it after Vincenzo pointed me that way… as I said – I will let our designer know, those (from mobile) are mockups, not actual screenshots from the app as the app is still in a messy state being under development. The macOS ones are real though as it’s ready there (minus a few bugs that are awaiting a fix).

Good luck with the redesign though. I know how hard it can be to please anyone. Been a MoneyWiz user for years and have been looking forward to an updated design!

    • I agree they should get rid of the picture of myself…it serves no purpose as this is a personal finance app, not a social networking app. I know how I look like.

A suggestion on the mac app, they should carry the account menus design of mobile app to the left side menus navigation on desktop version. It looks more consistent.

      • Guys, let me clarify something about that picture that seems to be such an eyesore for some of you – this is also used as an indication of the sync status, just like currently in MoneyWiz 2. So it does have a function, it’s not just for prettiness.

        Reply
    • Hi,
I totally agree with Nick regarding the “compact” view for transactions. The new design’s hughe blue bar at the top is a waste of space. When I am in the transaction view, I want to soley focus on transactions. I need to check them and partially edit them on the go, because the auto-categorization sometimes gets it wrong. I also want to correct entries, because the online-banking sync feature is not getting it right 100% of the time (still useful and a time saver overall). So that’s why I need a clear focus on transactions in that view. The ability to filter for cleared/scheduled/pending transactions isn’t that important for me (in combination with online-banking-sync). I think you should reconsider or at least give useres some optionality as different userers might use this view in different ways.

It is also a pitty to entirely get rid of the dashboard. I’d rather fix it, if I were you (mere transfers between accounts inflating expense and income statements- in combination with online-banking sync making it inaccurate).

      Cheers,
      Emanuel

      • Thanks for the feedback Emanuel.

We’ll figure out a way to show more transactions based on feedback. Also to make the budgets indicator more readable. One thing to note is that we’ll probably make the top bar scroll up and hide most of it when you scroll the list of transactions, this would also allow us to show more transactions.

        • Hi iliya, I like your idea. Sounds good. I really like moneywiz. Please just introduce the ‘smart transfer’ feature for online banking between accounts and I would be very much satisfied for the next release. I also like the redesigned budget view one has to to also mention the pros! Cheers Emanuel

BTW, background sync will come with this update?

    Reply
    • Hey,

So for reports I can’t honestly tell right now because we haven’t gotten to it yet… right now we’re focused on polishing Accounts, Transactions, Budgets, Settings and then we’ll go to Scheduled and Reports.

Background sync will be in the update after – i.e. MW 3.2. That update (3.2) will also come with the ability to quickly switch between SYNCbits accounts in case you have multiple accounts (a lot of our customers do).

    Hi, godo news!
For me there are three major points that a redesign could improve:
    – faster way to change the category of a transaction (today you need too much tap to do so)
    – possibility to change the category of a tansaction even if it is on a not confirmed state ( some bank accounts leave the transaction unconfirmed till the end of the month)
    – have a monthly view on the budget which includes either only the budget which have a monthly rollout or all the budgets but with a monthly calculation of the ones defined with a yearly rollout
If you need a test user here I am!

    Reply
    • Thanks Paolo!
To be honest chances are that the budget change won’t be done in this update (we’re actually still discussing this part) as we plan a major redesign of the entire budgeting section and we will probably roll out all budget related changes there. The rest – will speak to the team to see if we can incorporate now.

As for testing – thanks, we’ll open a beta for this when we feel it’s ready before we release to public, just to make sure we’re not missing anything as there will be quite a lot of changes.

      Reply
    • I agree with Paolo, we need faster ways to recategorise single transactions (confirmed and pending) and who batches of transactions. Otherwise it’s not possible to start to analyse old transactions.
Hopefully this will come in the new version, along with more compact screens and some more flexible reporting.

  • Iliya, So far so good, looks fantastic. However Nick Price is right, look at 1st and 5th for Android / iPhone screen shots and that is where the misspellings are. The first one got ‘transitions’ which rightly should be ‘transactions’, the last one (5) has got ‘expence’ and not ‘expense’. Sorry to tell you this, you are forgiven as no doubt you were tired burning midnight oil.

    • Keld, thanks. Please check my previous 2 comments 🙂 I didn’t realize we’re talking about the screenshots and thought it’s about the text I’ve written. The screenshots are a a mockup, a product of our designer and are not actually from the app itself as the app is in a messy state right now as it’s being redesigned. So these typos won’t make it into the app. I will post more up to date screenshots when the app is nearing completion though.

I’d agree very strongly that the budget display is next to useless: it needs to be much more visible, and putting red and green around a circle makes things worse for colour blind people when you are putting effort elsewhere into making it better.

As well as not needing a selfie at the top of the screen, the heading is too large anyway. I also agree that we need more transactions on screen.
It should all be about clarity of information, being able to answer the questions that brought you to the app (e.g. can I afford this, has that bill been paid etc) rather than about it being pretty.

  • About the desktop version, can the account list be more compact?

Currently it is big icon (two lines) + account name (first line) + account balance (second line).
It would be much better to provide an option to switch to: a small icon (one line) + account name (first line, left side) + account balance (first line, right side). In this way, the account list area can display 2x accounts.

I have about 50 accounts in 7 categories in MoneyWiz. Such an option for a compact view will be extremely helpful.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Daniel,

I will speak to the team to see if we can do this and how much time it will take… just FYI the reason for it being that way is that since MoneyWiz is pretty international we have plenty of customers working with currencies where the value of the currency is low so they operate with huge numbers… for example 1 million JPY is less than 9000 USD, so you can imagine amounts (account balances) getting pretty big and unable to fit in half line, and for that reason the amount is on a second line.

I love that the mobile version now has the bottom menu bar for navigation, as I find it annoying to switch between Reports to Accounts and Budget, etc. on mobile. So that’s a great improvement, definitely keep that! 🙂

One thing I’d add though is that there seems to be too large for the transaction list, etc. I’d love to see that be a bit more compact (or at least have a compact view option for those of us who would rather see more transactions on one screen).

        Hi Iliya,

Just to clarify too, I’d like to see the transactions more compact on mobile (based on the mockup design), but also the accounts list more compact too on both mobile and desktop, or again at least an option for it even if it isn’t a default view.

        Thanks again. 🙂

  • Hi Iliya,
Do you also plan to add a new widget type for android app to allow a quick transaction insertion? I’m on Android, and at the moment the only widget that allows me to enter a new transaction is the “Account” one. However I would like to hide my balances as they are clearly shown on the widget…I was thinking of a simple “+” widget that allows me to enter a new “Expense” and a “-” widget that allows me to insert a new Income.
    What do you think?
    Thanks

  • The new Budget screen. I’d really like it to display how much money I have REMAINING, without having to click or do the math in my head. A REMAINING figure (to me) would make it much easier to determine if a contemplated purchase would put me over budget.

Mark me down as another vote against the “picture thing” – certainly you can find a simpler graphic that indicates a sync is in progress? Adding some text “last sync occurred on xxxxx” might be useful.

Lastly, any screenshots of what the new UI will look like on the iPad?

  • Hi,

My thoughts on the new design:

    1. The new bottom bottom bar is a definite improvement over the menu but the picture on the top bar is unecessary. A small icon would serve the same purpose and take up less room.

    2. The two column readable figures on the budget screen are good, the old ones were a bit small but I agree with others that the red/green circles are not particularly clear. I would like to have the option to display a choice of remaining budget / used budget and total budget.

    3. The option to display scheduled transactions in the account view is great, hopefully the period will be configurable (1 week / 2 weeks / 1 month etc)

    4. The red dot replacement for the old flags is terrible. Personally I liked the little flags but if they have to go please reconsider the colour of the dot – red on red as shown in the example doesn’t stand out.

    Thanks

    • Hi,

Sorry it won’t make it in this update…I am giving up advance info here when I say this but let me say this – we’re working on a complete re-write of MW for MW4 (web based + apps) and that is one of the reasons we won’t go “all in” in MW3, because it will be a very short lived investment. MW4 will be an “all in” thing though as it will literally be written from scratch. We’ll make detailed announcement soon (in a month or so).

Hi Iliya! Great to see such nice development and dedication in the app. I made the transition from another application (which had been abandoned) to MoneyWiz about 5 years ago and I’m always happy to see developers pushing forward the platform.

The only feature request I have (which would make Reports and dashboards more useful) is to have the ability define at the category level where it should or shouldn’t be included in all reports.

The use case for this request is mainly the Transfer category – I have several accounts which I often transfer funds to and from and this ‘Transfers’ are picked up in the reports and my Dashboard shows me income/expenses three times more that it should. I understand I could change the each entry to Transfer but this would couple accounts. Alternatively, we could define at the transaction level that it is a internal transfer.

    Thoughts?

    Reply
    • Vitorio, when generating the report, you can specify what categories/tags to include. yes, better to use Transfers as transaction type, they are made for that.
a transfer transaction is not considered as a real profit or loss, because transfer means that you just take money from one place and put it into another place. Like in example of withdrawing Cash from ATM. You just take money from your card and put it into your pocket. You are not really spending them or gaining any money in this case.

If you want transfers to be included in a report, you have to generate Accounts Balance Over Time report, but generate it only for one account. In this case, such transfer will be considered either as expense or income for this particular account.

      • Bom dia.

Thanks for the suggestion. We want to make improvements in this area as well but I don’t have an ETA for now… chances are things like that will be made in MW4 onward as MW4 will be a complete rewrite of MoneyWiz and we’ll make it web-based (we’ll still have apps for offline use etc, but they too will be a complete re-write).

I see you have the net worth always available, but would it be possible to quickly check expenses for the current day in 3.1 somehow? Creating report each time would be very inconvenient.

    • Hi Alex,

Yes you can easily do this in 3.1 if you go to Accounts section and then switch from Accounts view to All Transactions view. That would be very easy to do. Then MW will show you the list of all transactions from all accounts sorted by date.

      • Hi Iliya,

What I meant is not the transaction list but the total amount of expenses per day. I see the reply from Marina below suggesting to use saved report for this, but I don’t see the option to use “This day” for the report. Another problem is that generating report even for one day is kind of slow. But if you solve these two issues I think it should work for my case.

As I understood you need to allow some monthly amounts for future scheduled purposes. In such case you can create the Savings “virtual” account and transfer necessary amounts from real account when it is possible. It will be kind of money-box. Then you can make scheduled transactions (even one-time without repeating) and pay it in advance or when it is due from this Savings account.

Looks okay. Was expected a much more radical GUI change on the desktop version, as I don’t use the mobile apps. also PLEASE can we have a facility to merge payees as we can do with categories we delete the category and put the transactions into another. . Often small changes in a payee name and after a time we have as many as 3 or four variants. Ss it is one has to change each individual transaction. MS Money had this facility 18 years ago .I have been requesting for this simple change for years.

  • Hi, I have just seen this thread and would like to suggest/request some features:

    1) I use the online bank connections. Sometimes it takes a day or so for a transaction to appear in my account. It would be great if I could add this manually and have moneywiz autoskip just like in scheduled to ensure there is no duplicate. That was I can be up to date with pending transactions without having to wait for the bank to register.

    2) I like to work out my budget based on how much I have to start with. I do this by using Excel to subtract from my salary and I can see how much I have let to allocate to a category. this would be really useful to add to the budgeting page so I don’t have to use a separate way of deciding how much goes into each budget each month.

    • Charlie,
1.actually if the date and amount are the same, transactions from online-banking should be skipped in this case.
      2. we plan to redesign Budgets section completely in one of updates. for now the rule of a thumb is, when creating a Budget, make sure, that the total Budgeted amount does not exceed your total monthly income.

  • Hi, I note that when attaching a receipt to a transaction , it seems that the the amount you can save – and also view afterwards – is restricted to a ‘zone’ in the middle of the screen, certainly on an IPhone. This often means that some of the attachment is ‘cutoff.’ Are there any plans to resolve this. Thanks

  • A feature I’d love to see would be the option to allow scheduled transactions to automatically enter in advance. For example, I have a standing order that comes out on the 20th of every month. I would like to be able to have it enter automatically on the 1st of every month rather than do it manually as I have to at the moment.

    Reply
    • Paul, you can add a Scheduled expense on 1st day with monthly repeat and choose Auto-pay in order to pay it manually. if you need to change the amount, you can change it on the due date. if you have issues/doubts, please contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you.

      • Thanks for the reply Marina. Yes, I agree that all scheduled transactions can all be set to come out on 1st of each month. However that gives an unrealistic picture in the accounts when, in reality, standing orders come out on different days of the month. It’s not a huge issue but in other finance packages I’ve used (I’ve just transferred from Checkbook Pro) there is the ability to set transactions to be deducted or added before the actual due date, so they enter in advance but display the date they actually come out of your account.

  • Great design and very neat. I would like to add some points as a feedback on the new UI & UX design.
    – The most important function of this app is to “record transactions” and it must be too easy to be done. In the first screenshot of the “accounts” view I do not see any + icon to record transactions apart from the one on top right corner. I am not taking my finger that far up to record a transaction and clicking on an account then recording a transaction is a three-steps job that I will not bear. Recording transactions must be accessible from any screen & be easy to navigate to. I would suggest to have the transaction view to pup-up once the app is opened because this is what we use the app for, while checking account summary and transactions is a one-time-a-day job for most people. (Maybe an option in settings for those who need it?)
    – The dashboard screen could have been redesigned to showcase important information or summary of accounts in a better way than it is right now or to have its information included under reports. (Dashboard showing summary of accounts & reports accessibility under one tab).
    – One suggestion I would like to add is to have the ability to deactivate or hide accounts from being seen/used anymore without losing any old transactions references. This is particularly helpful if someone would like to close an account or hide an account that is no longer used.
    – The top section has a lot of empty space that can be used more effectively. The tabs & sync picture can be squeezed further to give more space to transactions or to have it display more helpful information.
    – Will there be any widgets for easier access to transactions entry?

Many thanks and keep up the great work!

    Reply
    • Hello and thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback! The + button at the top of the accounts view is used for adding new accounts. Currently, transactions can only be added from within the accounts view (where there’s a big + button at the bottom within easy reach). I’ll note your design suggestion to make this button visible in all views.

As for de-activating accounts, please check out this article: https://wiz.money/knowledgebase/inactive-old-account-will-no-longer-used/ – it’s not 100% what you are referring to but it currently does the trick!

I’ve noted all of your comments and suggestions, thank you! Re-designed widgets are not part of this update but we’ll definitely be looking at it at later date!

  • Hello,
Just to know if you are changing something for dealing with the Payees, even when importing transactions or editing them.
When importing it’s hard to filter or select an existing payee, it’s not in an alphabetic order, so I ended up with many that are actually the same, it changes just a few characters depending on which bank or card. Then to edit them and remove the duplicated ones is also not an easy job.
The last thing is about the scheduled transactions, it would be great to be able to edit a single one from a series of payments. For example, my credit card bill, which I already scheduled for every month, but each one is going to have a different value, then I need to pay and leave as pending, what did not work very well in the system. Also, it would help a lot to have some kind of notification, by e-mail or push / pop up.

    Reply
    • Marcelo, thanks for feedback! yes, it may be useful to add ability to merge payees as you can do with categories now. in Scheduled you get the popup on the due date, if you don’t know the exact amount, you can leave the field empty and on payment fill the field in.

  • Hi, I am a former MW user, who moved away for certain key reasons. Wondering if these are being addressed in new version?
    – Splitting transactions. I read above that this isn’t coming, is that correct?
    – Rapid entry of transactions. For cash accounts, rapid manual entry on the go is a huge time saver & hassle saver. Has this been changed in mobile UI or does it still require finding the cash account, opening it up etc just to input my $15 spent on lunch?
    – Report customisation. This was the third main reason I left MW, has there been any changes made? I like to slice my data up as I choose, using tags at present, assigning multiple tags to a transaction if I want to (ie: holiday, groceries), which allows me to create a report for holidays excluding groceries, or a groceries report excluding holidays. Removing the dashboard, has reports capabilities been enhanced?

As you can tell, I left MW reluctantly, your handling of FX is the best out there, but these 3 core issues pushed me away. Have they been improved? Fingers crossed.

Looks like you’re making some in-roads and may have one of the neatest mobile apps amongst the serious budget plays, nice work! Hopefully some of these long requested functionality improvements are included too. Looking forward to your reply. Many thanks!

    • Hi! Nice to hear from you again!
Split transactions with transfers and income/expense in one transactions are coming presumably this year. Upcoming update will be with new UI on mobile devices and improved UI on Mac/Windows. as for rapid entry there will be several layouts that you can choose from, simplified and several customized. as for reports, we plan introduced changes in this section, but not in upcoming update, unfortunately.
      thanks for feedback!

  • Hi,
so no multiple user will be available on 3.1 version? Me and my wife use 2 different accounts for shopping and bills, were we make transactions from our personal accounts, and we have to replicate all the transactions on both our Syncbits users? It would be perfect to have some accounts editable from both of us with sync. No app has this option and would be a killer feature for family banking.

What about Shorcuts? Will 3.1 version have the ability to use Apple Shortcuts?

A good feature can be “Money wiz Shortcuts” that can be used on the home widget on iPhone. The user can save some predefined transactions, like “breakfast” or “phone recharge” which will always be the same amount. So I tap the button “breakfast” and it will automatically generate the transaction that I saved (e.g. 5 euros on Cash Account) and so on…. or even tap on the button “Salary” which will automatically generate an Income on my bank account, from my corporation, and I have to insert only the amount (which could change each month)

    Thank you,
    BR
    Stefano

    • Hi Stefano! Apologies, fast user switching is not coming in 3.1. It’s currently scheduled for 3.2 version.

As for Shortcuts – we are looking into this internally. We have not yet implemented this and implementing this would take some time, delaying other features. We’re just quite a small team so we need to prioritise what we’re putting on the agenda. We’re discussing the estimated popularity of Shortcuts given the popularity of Online Banking sync (we’re aware that not everyone uses Online Banking though).

      Reply
      • Hi Pawel,

sorry but it’s not about fast user switching… but with one user is possible to use bank accounts of another user. So that I can use my personal accounts, and even shared accounts with an other syncbit user.

Hi Guys, a few months ago I moved to MoneyWiz. BTW, I’m a UK customer.
The product is good. That said, it could be brilliant!
As an ex-developer, I almost want to offer you my services for free because the delivery of updates is frustratingly slow. Also, I think your effort into supporting cryptocurrencies is mostly wasted. Realistically, at least in the short term, I don’t see this paying a dividend. As an Agile IT consultant who specialises in customer value may I make a few suggestions….
    1. Ask your customers what they value, and get them to vote/prioritise the features. There are plenty of online services that offer tools to support.
    2. Reduce your release iterations to every 3 mths. Once a year is too long for customers.
    3. Consider asking customers to sponsor features if this is constraining your development.
    4. Create an online community, where users can help each other.
    5. Consider having beta testers in the community to reduce testing costs.

Lots more to offer if interested.
    let me know.

    • Hello Nicholas! We’re happy to have you as our customer and thank you for your enthusiasm! I’ll definitely pass your suggestions to our management team I wanted to note that we are doing more that it might seem at first sight. For example, we did a survey asking what customers wish for MoneyWiz to be implemented a couple of months ago and got a lot of replies (we also offered a chance to win a prize for those that completed it). Apart from careful analysis of the responses, we also contacted a couple of dozen of customers who said they were willing to be contacted and formed a focus group that we used to discuss MoneyWiz features further.

Thats good to here. May I suggest you look at shorter release cycles. I’m not suggesting you become the next Spotify and release hundreds of updates a day. However, I am saying once a month or quarter is a realistic target.

  • Since the first edition of this software, many users have been asking for a proper solution to budgeting. The solution offered was not good enough and you still seem to be ignoring this. I really don’t understand why you are annoying so many of you users by adding features that few will want when the feature so many have been shouting for is being ignored. Will you give us a date when you will add full envelope style budgeting? If not, I might have to find another package.

Other useful amendments: when adding scheduled payments in advance, MW asks me every time if I want to do this as its a payment in the future, add a ‘don’t ask me again’ tick box. When MW guesses a transaction category after a download from a bank, get it to change automatically when the payee is entered correctly (change to same category as when payee used last). To prevent duplication of scheduled payments and bank downloads MW should check a day or two either side and ask if the downloaded transaction is the one already entered.

    Reply
    • currently we’re finishing new UI implementation. new Budget will be in one of updates, unfortunately each feature can’t be introduced in a month, as we have 4 platforms to implement it in and retest.
will note your request as for tick box.

as for matching ST in online accounts: What we recommend is to set up your scheduled transactions as usual, but in the options of such transaction please turn on option “Auto-skip” (this option is only available in Scheduled transactions that are targeted for online accounts). Then when the payment date of such transaction comes, they won’t be paid, but skipped (as the same transaction should be downloaded from your Online banking anyway). In this case you will keep the Forecasting possibility of MoneyWiz and avoid downloading duplicates to your account.

  • Hi team, this update looks great, i’ve been waiting for it for a long time, any idea when will it be live?

I agree with most of the suggestions noted above (just adding my upvote)
    – picture seems like a waste of space, could be done differently
    – more compact transaction view would also be neat
    – I use budgets a lot and the current UI makes it very easy to see how you are against your goals since it has spend and also the line showing until that date where should it be. The current 3.1 UI doesn’t show any of those things clearly and the red and green circle although nice isn’t as usable
    – one more thing that has always bugged me, is there a way to stop ‘description’ prefilling? for me it’s enough to have payee and category and the description always prefills and then I end up having inconsistencies with what the description says and what I bought, I just don’t want to have descriptions or have them optional (just like the memos section)

Aside from that I’m really eager for this release, i’ve been using MoneyWiz for a long time now and is one of my must have apps, great job.

Been waiting for a simple, basic feature I’ve had for years on my previous financial packages; a forecast running balance report on all my accounts including scheduled transactions. Been waiting all year for this. First it was coming in V3, then September, then October. This is a real joke for what they claim is “the world’s most advanced financial software”. I’m told there’ll be nice surprises coming, a polished update, . I’m almost through with this mob; currently looking around for an alternative as I can’t plan ahead without this most basic of features.
Advice to MoneyWiz team: go and learn some agile software fundamentals, as with your current approach and long release periods, you’re either obsoleting yourself or losing your customer base by not delivering timely market value.

  • abounding in the above in terms of categories, there should be only one form of categories that could be used both in payments and income, in this way to obtain a report, it would be net, without needing to calculate the payments on one hand and on the other income.
I hope you have explained me.

    • Hi Albino! you can use tags for this, if you have some project (i.e. renting a flat to someone) and have both incomes (rent) as well as expenses (renovating the flat, providing furniture) and want to see whether you’re making money or losing it on this project, you should tag all transactions with that tag, then generate Profit and Loss report with tag filter.

I noticed we are having some during these last days, and I’m really looking forward to some specific ones, such as improvements in scheduled transactions, payee management, and automatic categorization.
For now, I just notice changes in visual and UI, but still nothing into the engine or features of the system, the practical part.
    Thanks.

    • Hi Marcelo

No ETA yet… just a few notes – we’ve actually improved features and engine a lot as well, it’s not just visual. Just this year we did:
      * Forex/Traveler/Crypto accounts support
      * Ability to see forecasted transactions directly in the account where they will go
      * Ability to export database on any device
      * Improvements to Apple Watch app
      * Performance improvements
      * Improvements to auto-categorization in online banking
      * A lot of new transaction layout settings including the ability to have colorful icons, not have icons at all, select options about auto-categorization etc
      * Background sync (done on Windows, will come soon on the other platforms)
      * New UI of course

So we’re trying to accommodate feature requests by multiple criteria so we end up doing a little bit of everything.

      • Hi Iliya,
Nice, as I mentioned I noticed most visual changes, and since I didn’t read the update notes, I wasn’t sure what else was changed, but good to know.
The only thing you said it was improved and I didn’t really notice yet is the auto-categorization. I’m still struggling for this to work, I import manually my bank statements, so I don’t know if this affects the categorization somehow, but some of the payees I always need to fix the category. There are many duplicated payees, depending on which card or account I use, it changes few characters, so a better way to organize or manage the payees and categorize them would be great.
I use most the Windows platform, but the Android one got pretty good too, nice UI, much easier to use and intuitive, congrats. Looking forward for the rest 😀

Due domande , come si allegano i tag ad una transazione ed inoltre è possibile allegare file ad una transazione ( pdf o jpeg )
Quali per esempio una ricevuta o distinta ?
    Grazie

  • How about changing the red dot (Transaction not cleared) to some other color (yellow?) so that it is easier to see.

Pawel, I can support Marcelo in his observation that forecast in the register do no appear unless you show all dates. If less (7, 30 or 90 days) then the forecast is gone. I actually brought this up earlier to you and it’s still an unwanted “feature” which needs sorting. The forecast works well in the calendar.

  • Hi, I just want to say that the new interface is really good. Much more usable, especially the budget section.
Fpr me there are only two major improvmnets that would enhance further the usability. First, please reduce the numer of taps for the categorization of an expense coming from a banking account. Today I have to tap on the transaction, tap options, tap on the modify menu, tap on category, tap a new category, tap the confirm…6 times. It would be much easier if to change the category (which is for me the 95% of the adjustments needed when I import the trasaction from a banking account) would be required just to tap once on the icon of the category in the transaction lists and tap again to change the icon. I know that now you are using the tap on the category to put a transacion ‘on hold’ and viceversa but tapping the icon for the change of category would be much more useful. Second, I think the transaction that are transfers between for example a main bank account and a credit card account should be linked (e.g. from the banking account I have an expense that is an income in the visa card account) once that I set that is a trnsfer between the two accounts. have a great day!

Hello all! Using version 3 of moneywiz on. Android and I am loving it! However I have a couple of suggestions. First, how about you guys design some widgets? There is only one widget and it is just a square sitting on the screen doing nothing, just displaying the balance, it doesn’t even start the application when pressed. Also, how about you put a field on the expense screen where we can input the transaction location with a map and everything? Thanks for listening!

    • Hi George

Widgets will come in 2019 at some point, it’s on our todo list.
The map thing – it would be nice but it’s not a priority for now. We have it as a feature we’d like to do one day but no ETA for now.

  • I actually really love this software since moving to Mac a million years ago there has been nothing to equivalent to Microsoft Money!!! This is pretty close. One ask would be to be able to edit a Payee and attach the Categories to that Payee. That way all transactions to that payee could be changed automatically.

Other than that its a great bit of software.

    • Hi Jim! you can edit Payee from Settings -> Payees. it will edit the payee name in transactions that already have it. or you can bulk-edit payee/other fields from table view on Mac/Windows.

        Hi Marina,
I guess Jim also mentioned to have the ability to edit the standard category for the payee. I know the system has the auto-categorization, but sometimes you don’t want to use that, or is even good for checking which is the one is set. For example, if a have a payee that is usually Food category, but I use sometimes for other stuff, this is going to change the auto-categorization, but I want to be always Food as standard in case I don’t have time to split the transactions or check them.
And to be honest, all other systems I used so far, and I tried several ones, you are able to edit the standard category for the payee. So I guess would be an important thing to add, also would be good to improve how to edit/manage/delete payees, doing similar things as the categories, when you delete one and substitute by other.
        Thanks.

  • Ciao a tutti.
