MoneyWiz 2 for Windows is finally here!

Thank you all for your patience!

Here are a few things you should know about this release:

  • This is a soft launch. Meaning that there are still some known issues, which we’ll be correcting with rapid updates release over the next several weeks.
  • There are known issues in Reports and Import and several issues in different areas of the app. As noted above, we’ll correct them asap.
  • We’ll be releasing minimum one update per week, possibly even more, depending on feedback and urgency.
  • If you still use MoneyWiz 1 on any device, have in mind that once you sync with MoneyWiz 2 for Windows you will need to update to MoneyWiz 2 on all of your devices, otherwise the sync will not work on any MoneyWiz 1 devices.
  • Advanced Reconcile is not yet fully implemented on Windows, and for that reason we’ve disabled it from the interface. It will be available very soon.
  • We’re hoping to release the subscription based version of MoneyWiz 2 for Windows within 4-6 weeks.
  • Supported OS: Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10

We welcome any feedback! 🙂

Thank you again for your patience!

    Hi Ilya

I have just purchased and installed MW for Windows. I found some critical issues on “Reports”, including some crashs.
It’s late for me now, so I’ll describe those issues tomorow.

    Good night

    • Hi Tom,

Apologies for this issue. We found it and fixed it via an update (2.0.2.21) yesterday. Please make sure you are running the latest version for Windows and the issue should not happen anymore.

  • I purchased the Windows version yesterday but am curious… in your blog you said that there would be a number of updates (as there are known issues)… my question is, will the software update on its own, or do I need to download updates from the web?

    Reply
    • Hi Jason,

MoneyWiz will update on its own. Every time you start it, it checks for available updates and if there are any it prompts you to install it.
We already released one update last Saturday and the second one is coming tomorrow (Friday). Basically we plan to release updates each Friday until all reported issues are fixed.

        • Hi Graham,

Yes, we released it but it takes up to 12 hours to propagate across the CDN (which we use for faster delivery of downloads). It must be available by now though. Let me know if it’s not.

          • Hi Kevin,

We haven’t yet done the functionality to show what’s new when an update pops up. It’s on our to-do list to do it soon.

    • Hi Daniel,

We’ve actually just had a big discussion about the MoneyWiz 3 release internally and we’ve decided that we’ll postpone it by several months in favor to more improvements in MoneyWiz 2 across all platforms.
As for the pricing – we’re actually discussing several options so I am not sure, but if you are on the subscription version MoneyWiz 3 will surely come as a free update. If not on it, the Windows & Android versions will be pro-rated as they were released later than the iOS/Mac versions.

  • I’m having problems with the Windows version. For one, when it auto-updates, the taskbar icon gets duplicated. When I open it up, certain (not all) scheduled transactions that happened after the last time I had the Windows version open get duplicated. This is frustrating because it’s not only random and difficult to fix, but it affects my iOS data as well. The iOS data gets messed up, but not the same way Windows does…also completely random. Once I fix the iOS data, unfortunately, the only option is to not open the Windows version. This stinks because it’s essentially $32 down the drain (had to buy 2 licenses)…

    • Hi Steve,

Wow this should totally not happen! Please e-mail our support so they can investigate and forward this to the dev team for a fix.

Also, if things are looking OK on iOS but you are afraid they might not be on Windows, you can delete the MoneyWiz database file on Windows and then make a clean sync there. The database is located here:
      C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\SilverWiz\MoneyWiz

You can delete the entire folder.

  • Does the £36.65 for the online banking Windows desktop software option include the app or does the iOS app have to be purchased independently through the iTunes Store? Thanks.

    • Hi Noel,

If you create a SYNCbits account the subscription info will sync. Then you can use the Windows version together with the free iOS version. Our pricing is a bit complicated currently (and we’re experimenting a few things so we can dramatically simplify it for the future), but you can learn more about how it works here:

  • When will the Windows subscription based version be released?

    Reply
    • Hi Fiona,

It should be sometime in May (i.e. in several weeks). Right now we’re focused on fixing any reported bugs and once that’s done we’ll work on creating & releasing the subscription version.

  • Found a bug: when I tell the iOS version to skip a scheduled transaction (i.e. “push” it to the following scheduled date), iOS handles it no problem, but when I open the Windows version, it runs the original scheduled transaction. Once the Windows version syncs, the iOS data gets all messed up. Deleting C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\SilverWiz\MoneyWiz fixes it, but it just keeps happening over and over again after any scheduled transaction takes place…

    • Hi Steve,

I am sorry about this bug. We’re aware of it and the update that we’re releasing today should fix it. (this particular bug is what actually delayed the update from the regular Friday release cycle to today).

  • It’s going to sound funny but I have now purchased Moneywiz 1 for IOS as well as Moneywiz 2 for both IOS and Windows since I have a strong belief that when you have released full functionality, Moneywiz will be the application I have been hoping for since Microsoft discontinued MS Money. My intent was to support you financially and to take advantage of any upgrade discounts that might be applicable. I was convinced to purchase the Windows veraion and convert when I found that despite your functionality list stating that advanced reconciliation is available in the Windows version, you are stating here that it has been disabled. I find this disappointing but am prepared to wait a little longer. Can you please advise when the full reconciliation functionality will be available as I suspect that this is the last deal breaker for me in converting over.

    • Hi,

They are available on Mac as of now. For Windows we’ll add them within a month or two…we’re just now starting to catch up on a few features (after a lot of bug fixing in the past few weeks) and we’re first rolling out the advanced reconcile this week and we’ll then focus on the remaining features such as the improved transaction entry, local backups etc… so they will come soon! 🙂

  • Where is the demo for the Windows version? Currently I’m using YNAB and it works great. My biggest concerns are your sync and how future transactions show up in the register and on Android. I see some posts from March saying that the trail will be available in a month. It’s now May. How long is the trail? Windows is available now, why not just put a 30 day trail into what is available now?

    • Hi Ricky,

The demo version is not yet ready. Making a demo version requires a lot of work to make sure that ill intended people don’t abuse it. Judging by the speed of progress I think it will be live by the end of the month though.

  • Hi Iliya,
I am currently testing my ability to import from Microsoft Money by exporting to QIF files and then importing. When I try to import the file, Moneywiz reports that the date format is wrong and then provides a random list of transactions for me to look at. It tells me that I should provide the correct date format but provides nowhere for me to do this. There is a box at the top of the screen that says “The date format is wrong”. When I click on that box it simply pops up a small empty dialog. Am I doing something wrong? For reference, Windows 10 is set to use English Australia Language with Australia as the system locale. The short date format is d/MM/yyyy and the long date format is dddd, d MMMM yyyy. When I open the QIF files I note that the date is stored as d/MM’yyyy.

Also, how will I know when the advanced reconciliation function has been enabled?

    Reply
    • Hi again,

About import – please email our support and they will report the issue to the dev team and it will be fixed.
Advanced Reconcile – will most probably be released in our next update in a few days. There will be an extra button near the search bar, which will be for advanced reconcile.

  • Please ignore my previous post. If I am not mistaken, in order to use both manual transactions and online banking I need to purchase two subscriptions costing a total of around AUD $160 per year. If this is so then I think it is a bit over the top. In addition, I have done some more reading and I find that not only import and advanced reconciliation in the Windows version is not yet working, even on the IOS version, online banking can not yet handle transfers correctly. Unfortunately this makes Moneywiz 2 unusable for me in any form until all of those issues are resolved.

    Reply
    • Hi Phil,

You can buy MoneyWiz and then you won’t be paying the manual transacctions subscription but major updates will be paid. You can see more about the differences here: http://moneywizapp.com/buy/

As for import & advanced reconcile – import does work, but we still get reports about certain files that fail and we fix issues as they are reported. Advanced reconcile will be available within a few days, it’s currently being tested as the dev team already implemented it, so chances are that advanced reconcile for Windows will be released with the next update which we’ll probably release tomorrow.

      • That’s good to hear Iliya but at this stage I am not sure where I stand. I have purchased the windows version but wonder how I would convert it to the subscription version and would I get a discount of the amount I paid for the paid version. I also believe that the handling of transfers needs attention just as I believe that all downloaded transactions will need. In MS Money there is a review and confirmation process for these things. Surely there is a simple way to tentatively match transactions that look like transfers pending a user review just as the categorisation of downloaded transactions should require a review. I wouldn’t like to thinh I would need to use the reconciliation process for this purpose.

        • Hi Phil,

We do plan to add a similar thing to MoneyWiz sometime in the future. As for converting to the subscription version & getting a discount – since it’s technically impossible to do it, what I would suggest is that we just refund your paid purchase in full. If you want that just e-mail our support with your order # and request a refund.

          • Thanks Iliya.
For now I’ve decided to stick with the paid version and stay away from online banking. Unfortunately it really wouldn’t work for me the way it is now. Once I feel it’s up to scratch I may have another look at it but if the import function and advanced reconciliation get sorted soon at least I may be able to make what I have paid for do the job.

Windows syncing problems – I am in discussion with Pawel ref. Windows not syncing fully with Android version & a “parsing” problem when updating Windows versions. As instructed I have uninstalled the Windows version & now see that I have lost some transactions entered using Windows. I can re-enter the lost transactions when I reconcile bank & card accounts, but cash transactions are lost so this month`s balance will be inaccurate. Thankfully I download reports at the end of each month.
I am not getting any updates as to what is going on – please can you advise here what is happening & when can I download a fixed Windows MoneyWiz again. What guarantees that this will now sync fully – I cannot have lost transactions again. Thank you.

    Hi Iliya –
Ticket no : Re: [#32608] SyncBits – stopped syncing Windows desktop
I see from other user feedback that there is a serious problem with Syncbits.
We have three Android devices which are now no longer syncing properly, each now has differing net worths, some transactions are appearing in one device but not the other two, other transactions appear in all three devices but in different bank accounts in each device. I was so happy with MoneyWiz before Windows, now I have to manually compare the 3 device Moneywiz`s to see what is missing / incorrect & where – & when this eventually gets fixed which version of my Moneywiz on Syncbits will be the one which is reconciled across the three devices?
I have uninstalled Windows Moneywiz. My trust & confidence in MoneyWiz is severely damaged, i need a reliable money manager, but now this is causing me a lot of grief & anxiety.

    • Teddy, please email our support with that info and ask them to have your SYNCbits account re-created. This will solve whatever issue happened that is causing this. It’s definitely not normal to experience that sort of issue.

    Thank you Iliya –
I have uninstalled MoneyWiz from 2 devices, in an attempt to prevent any data conflicts & confusion so now have on only one device which (I hope) has the most accurate data of my finances.
I will copy your message to Pawel in support, but please can you also pursue this with them, the response time is painfully slow & then with half answers. You all work for the same team so I would hope that you can communicate this internally on behalf of your customer.

Also – as I have uninstalled MoneyWiz Windows – when will be in a fixed, reliable & trustworthy state to re-download again?

Thanks for your help – Teddy

        Ok Iliya –
        Ticket no : #32608

I have now had a response from Pawel & de-synced my MoneyWiz from SyncBits & have been instructed not to use MoneyWiz until there is an Android update, so now I am having to work on paper! & do a bulk update on my MoneyWiz when I can eventually use it again. How long will that be?

Windows – like other Android devices on Syncbits it wasn`t fully syncing – when entering transactions it is hit & miss if they synced across all linked devices.

Good – that didn`t take as long as I feared – Seems like normal MoneyWiz / SilverWiz customer service is resuming back to normal responsive service again – reply this morning from Pawel – my MoneyWiz is up & running & synced with SYNCbits again – big relief if this all works OK again.

Now just waiting to hear if I can upload Windows version & reliably use that platform again.

Seems like you guys have not had a great couple of weeks with all these problems, hope they are sorted now & you can enjoy spending more time on development instead of trouble shooting

  • Hi Iliya,

Unfortunately I’m also a victim of the SyncBits server issues experienced over the past two months. Ticket Number #33445

Similarly I was having trouble getting some transactions keyed into my Windows version to sync to my Android.

Per advisement – I uninstalled Android and had my SyncBits account deleted so as to allow a desync. However, server outages yesterday caused my Windows MoneyWiz to crash while I was setting up a new account and I could not reopen it.

After reinstalling – it appears all the data on my Window’s MoneyWiz is gone as well. I have lost 5 months of diligent bookkeeping, more than 800 entries across 10+ accounts.

I exported a CSV copy as a backup before starting the Desync process – but now i realise it doesn’t allow me to import the data properly.

Please tell me there’s a easy way you guys can restore my lost data. This has been quite the nightmare for me. I’ve enjoyed using your product so far (at least until the sync issues started) and I know this program best suits my needs. But the prospect of having to manually re-key every entry completely irks me and I would hate to have to start on the hunt again to find a more reliable application for my expense management.

A big “Thank you” to both Pawal and yourself… Please let me know as soon as you find a solution. My exported file should be attached as part of the ticket.

    Cheers

I am sorry to hear about this issue. If you already emailed our support, they will get back to you for sure.
Also if you still have MoneyWiz with the proper data on any device, please do let them know as this will help them fix your issue in a matter of minutes (if you have any device with the data, restoring it is very easy and our support will guide you through it). If not, but you have the CSV then it can be restored too.

      • Hi Iliya,

As it currently stands I currently have no data both on my Windows and Android versions of MoneyWiz. All account/category data that I’ve personalized seems to be gone as well.

I only have a dump of data (.csv) which I exported out from Window MoneyWiz before the reinstallation but looking at it – it doesn’t have the personalized categories so I believe that would need to be recreated from scratch.

Please advise on how the database can be restored with this csv. In MoneyWiz, importing the data appears to lose some data fields (such as time and name) and the imported data can only be uploaded to existing accounts in the app (which is blank at the moment).

Does that mean I have to recreate all accounts and categories before I import the data? Is there an easier way to bulk upload the account information without having to recreate all of them manually?

        Thanks.

        Reply
        • Hi Kenneth,

The accounts need to be re-created indeed (the reason is that CSV/QIF/OFX files do not contain all the data needed for automatic creation of an account…for example – opening balance, credit limit etc).
As for the categories – they can be auto-created during the import, but their hierarchy may be lost.
I would suggest you contact our support though as they would be better prepared to handle this. If you tried that and had no luck please tell me what happened…

          Reply
          • Hi Iliya,

I’ve been informed by the support team that the information cannot be “import(ed) automatically for you as there are certain decisions that you – as a user and owner of this data – would need to make during the import process”

It was also suggested that my account would need to be deleted again before I start importing the data manually – but I’ve not heard back since giving the instruction to delete the account this morning.

Could you please look into this? Also – I noted that the Windows import method seems to lose some data fields available in the csv like Time, can you please check whether this information can still be imported?

            Thank you

          • Hi Kenneth,

It seems Pawel already deleted your SYNCbits account as requested. As for the import – the only thing that seems we can’t currently import is the time of the transactions (the date is fine). The reason for not importing time at this moment is that when it comes to CSV files there is no unified format of how time is exported. That makes little sense when we’ve exported the data though, so I am logging this to the team for future implementation.
