MoneyWiz 2 for Windows Desktop

  • We are hoping to release by the end of April, although we can’t be sure at this point. MoneyWiz for Windows is still catching up on the MoneyWiz 2 features and design.
  • We’re still working on the Windows UI to become more native Windows looking.
  • The Windows version will work on Windows XP and higher
  • It will be retina optimized
  • It will be sold at the same price as MoneyWiz 2 for Mac, via our website
  • We’ll publish another, more thorough preview when we’re ready to start the beta program.
  • If you want to participate in the beta, just follow us on twitter and be the first to know when we announce it. (http://twitter.com/MoneyWiz)

MoneyWiz 2 for Android

  • The first beta will be released in a couple of weeks tops. We need to finalize everything related to SYNCbits, so that the data format between iOS/Mac and Android is the same, before we can release the beta.
  • Public release must be sometime in March if all goes well with the beta
  • If you want to participate in the beta, just follow us on twitter and be the first to know when we announce it. (http://twitter.com/MoneyWiz)

  • Looks good, can’t wait for this to be in BETA. I hope we will be able to resize and change the order of the columns in the budget and account sections.
Also, hope we will be able to change the date/time formats (DD.MM and 24hr time). Thnx

    Reply
    • Thierry, resize – yes, you will be able to resize. Date format – it will be automatically read from your OS settings, so MoneyWiz will use the same date/time format settings as your OS.

Installed and synced with SYNCbits which pulled down accounts and transactions, however quite a few of my old transactions which were “cleared” are back to pending in MoneyWiz 2. Is this a known issue – is there an email we can report issues to, as [email protected] doesn’t seem suitable as that is the only address I can find?

Hi iliya, I’ll have to pay again? I spent more or less 35-40$ (Moneywiz 1.0 for iPad and iPhone (they were sold separately), MoneyWiz 2 for Mac and MoneyWiz 2 for iOS) so, I have to pay again for windows version? I think is nonsense, but if it’s the only way to have i’ll pay but i’m not agree with that.

        • Hi Daniel,

MoneyWiz 2 for Windows is a separate app from iOS and Mac. Hence separate purchase.

          • Wow Iliya. Although everything in your answer makes perfect sense, it sounded really weird (and aggressive) from a customer standpoint.
In the end of the day, in any company, you are not paid by work you do to customers. You are paid by the value you provide to your customers.
As long as you provide value, customers will be happy to pay you (if you have separate teams working on separate apps, that’s pointless for a customer). No need to waste time explaining how life works in a very unpolite way, by the way (for me, at least).
Having said that, question: I saw a lot of value on both versions of Money Wiz for Iphone, and I’m anxiously waiting for the Windows version of it. I saw a lot of movement to include iwatch capabilities and still no movement for Windows version. Do you have a better release date expectation other than “Available Q2”?

          • Hi Angelo,

We don’t have a specific date yet (for Windows). The development is taking longer than we expected, and we’d rather not give false hopes. It will definitely be this year, but when exactly – not yet sure.
I can tell that in a matter of month or two, we will start a beta for Windows though.

  • Interesting that the beta and final version of Android app should have been out in March. We are now in May and nothing has come, I love the app but I don’t know how much longer I will wait before trying a new app. I have mz2 on my mac and its great but it not ideal not being able to sync it with my phone. Can you please release a update on when it will be released?

  • Hello. I missed in the previous version the possibility to add bills and divide them through months. Will this be possible? I don’t want to manually add bills month by month,
When we buy something here in credit card, we can divide it in many times. It would be great if this was automatic. Like: bought television of 400u$ in 3 times. Then the bill is automatically programmed to repeat 3 times of 133u$.

Another thing I missed was the credit card closing date, when we have to pay our debts. The app should automatically know that in the given date, my credit card would cost x.

    Reply
    • Hi Marcelo,

We’ve had this functionality for years… you can set the number of times a bill repeats and when it ends.

As for the credit card payments – this is on our to-do list, but it’s more complicated than it seems because not all people pay their CC in full. Some pay minimum balance or other balance. So such system can only automate things for some people but not all.

  • Hi, I have read all post on this section and there is a few people that are on the same situation as I am: have Moneywiz installed on diverse platform (ipad, mac and android in my case) I bought the apple versions the day they came out expecting that Android version will be soon out after these releases, however I have been waiting a long time to get the Android version and be able to use all the wonderful enhancement that moneywiz 2 have, now I have to wait till end of july or begining of august. I have been a user of personal accounting software since the quicken times and have used quite a lot of those products, some for evaluation and some with very good results that I have used for my personal use, this is the case of Moneywiz, however I’m dissapointed for the fact of not being able to use the new version of this software. As a minimum I will expect a special offer price for those loyal customers that have had the patience to wait for the new release of this product, I wouldn’t like to move into another personal accounting software again.

PD: I’m not a fan of using beta versions of this type of software I have a lot of data that could be at risk if something goes wrong

  • Is this the final design for the Android app? Not trying to sound mean, but I’m honestly disappointed. This looks like an iOS app was simply copy/pasted to Android. Looks at those tabs, for example. That’s how tabs are suppose to look on iOS, not on Android. Same goes for the sliding menu, the “add” button, and the iconography as a whole. If you guys look at developer.android.com/design you’ll notice a lot wrong in the screenshots.

I’m a MoneyWiz for Mac user and have been waiting for the new Android app for a long time. After all these months of delay I honestly expected a much better, more native design (like the iOS version has). Material has been all over the place on every major app for almost a year now, and it seems to have been completely ignored here. I just don’t see any love for the platform. As an Android user I think it’s time for me to switch to another app. 🙁

    Reply
    • Yes, this is the design of the Android app. It looks a lot like the iOS app though there are many Android specific features such as tap&hold, widgets etc.
Material design was introduced at a time while we’re already deep into the porting of MoneyWiz to Android. We’ll update it in the future to match the UI principles of material design but our priority for now is to release.

  • Why are you guys so useless at estimating release dates? Seriously, this screams “inept software developer”. Pick a feature set, release it. Release additions later. People will thank you, you’ll make more money. Prospective customers will thank you for being honest and releasing the features that you commit to.

Don’t over-stretch yourself. Release the Windows version on a different release cycle. Just give us something compatible with your (proprietarily lame) sync system but not crippled enough to make it useless.

    Reply
    • Hi Thomas,

Why we can’t meet the deadlines? Because we are a very small team, working on a very complex software. When it comes to MoneyWiz for Windows, another factor that plays a major role is that this is our first Windows project and we faced more surprises than we ever anticipated.

Why we don’t release a semi-useful version and then add to it? For multiple reasons:
      1. Because our customers don’t want a semi useful version. We’ve tried that approach in the past and it backfired badly.
      2. Because of the sync. Imagine we release a version without account groups or loan accounts for example. But you have those on iOS/Mac or Android. What is the Windows version supposed to do with them if it has no idea what it is? It diminishes the whole concept of sync between platforms if all platforms can’t handle the same data.

By the way, SYNCbits is much more advanced than any other sync technology out there. Much more stable too…just look at Apple’s issues and outages with iTunes and look at ours. We’ve built a superior sync platform. The fact that we keep it proprietary doesn’t mean it’s not superior. It means we don’t allow access to it.

  • I’m glad to see the Windows version is finally available. However, it’s upsetting that spending $25 only allows me to install the program on one computer (Quicken and most other competitors of yours allow at least 3 computer installations per license). Mac users only have to pay $25 once to install on ALL of their Macs…it’s simply not fair that you’re punishing Windows users. Also, your roadmap shows that the Windows software will be outdated in only 8 months, meaning I’d have to spend another $40 (for 2 licenses; home and work computers), for a grand total of $80 in an 8 month period of time. As much as I’ve been waiting patiently for this Windows version, I’m sadly going to have to pass unless:

    1) One license can provide at least 2 computers. This would make my total out-of-pocket $50 for the current version and version 3. Still way more than Quicken, but I’d be willing to do so to support your developers.

    and/or

    2) Buying a license now guarantees a free update to version 3 in November. This only seems fair. Remember the backlash Apple received after releasing the 4th generation iPad only 7 months after the 3rd was released? Yeah, you don’t want that…

Just to clarify, no, I’m not interested in the subscription model, which I realize provides free major upgrades.

    Reply
    • Hi Steve,

Thanks for your comments. The license policy is based on the fact that most Windows apps are sold like this – once license / one computer. I will raise the issue internally in the team though.

As for MoneyWiz 3 upgrade – we won’t charge anywhere near the full price for Windows when MoneyWiz 3 comes, simply because it will be so soon after the MoneyWiz 2 release. It just won’t be fair and we want to be fair. Historically what we do is that we take the full price and then divide it by the maximum number of months that version has been available (for iOS/Mac as they come first), then adjust the price of Android based on how much later it was released. We will do the same with Windows, so I don’t see the MoneyWiz 3 price for Windows to be anywhere near close to the full amount unless we get really delayed with MoneyWiz 3 which is something I hope doesn’t happen.

      Reply
      • Fair enough. Knowing that the upgrade to version 3 will be discounted, combined with the 20% off introductory pricing and discount on getting 2 licenses together makes this a good buy right now. Thanks for the quick response.

    • Hi Gail,

Indeed you just buy the Windows version and log in to your SYNCbits account and that’s it. It should be linked to the iPhone and iPad so whenever you make changes on any of the 3 devices (iPhone, iPad, Windows), they will automatically sync to all devices.
