4 years ago, MoneyWiz created an unprecedented wave of innovation – we were the first financial software in the world to successfully create a cloud syncing platform. Users of MoneyWiz were the first in the world to enjoy seamless, automatic synchronization between devices.

Now that MoneyWiz 2 is out, we’d like to direct your attention to our next big leap of innovation – Worldwide Online Banking.

To this date, there are finance apps that can integrate with banks in the US, Canada, UK and a few other countries. No app combines all of these though, and all of them use a technology that’s unable to expand to worldwide operations. The reason is that most banks don’t comply to any standards when it comes to online banking, making it extremely difficult and time consuming to integrate with them. That has been one of the reasons we didn’t make online banking in MoneyWiz earlier. MoneyWiz is the most popular finance software in over 30 countries and we knew that the only way to truly satisfy our customers is to allow all of them to use online banking, not just our customers in the US, UK or Canada.

In mid-2014, we’ve teamed up with a great company that has been working on bank integrations in Germany. We combined efforts and know-how, and half an year later, we’re happy to announce MoneyWiz 2 – the first finance software in the world, that can integrate with banks from all over the globe.

This is a remarkable and unprecedented innovation. Up until now, people in most of the world were unable to use finance software that automatically keeps their accounts updated. Everything had to be done manually. And now in 2015, we’re proud to bring this to you, with MoneyWiz 2!

At this very moment, we can connect to more than 2200 financial institutions in 41 countries. And new integrations are being added every single day with the plan to support more than 5000 financial institutions in more than 50 countries, by the end of this year.

You can see the full list of supported banks, here. And if your bank is not on the list, just let us know, and we’ll work with you to add it!
Thank you for being part of the MoneyWiz community and the inspiring innovation that it brings!

    Reply
    • Hi Mike,

Yes, the online banking costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year.
MoneyWiz provides much more functionality than any bank’s app alone, and much more powerful reports. Also, if you use more than one bank, you can have all data in one place (i.e. MoneyWiz), as opposed to using several different bank apps.

Hi. Is it possible to link recurring transactions to the bank integration? IE, when a transaction is imported from my bank it will remove it from the scheduled list?

    Reply
    • Yes, you can have recurring transactions that go to an Online Banking account, and once they import from the online banking they will just clear/reconcile (that feature is coming in update 2.0.2 though, in a few weeks).

  • I’m going to upgrade to MoneyWiz2 and I think the optional online banking function is a fantastic new feature which I’d like to use but I’m concerned about security. I feel as though I need more transparency on how it works before I would be comfortable to use it. Please could you add some documentation that answers these questions:
    1. Who stores my online credentials?
    2. Where are the servers where they store it and what physical security do they have?
    3. Do they store all credentials data on their servers or is some of it still held on my local PC/phone? (e.g. password on server, but username locally)
    4. How is data encrypted whilst its being stored? (please also clarify for transmission too but I assume that’s standard SSL/TLS)
    5. Who creates the encryption key and where is it stored?
    6. No company is immune to hacking, so what would happen in the worst case scenario and they were hacked?

    Reply
    • Hi John,

      1. Online credentials are stored with SaltEdge.
      2. Not sure…you have to ask SaltEdge.
      3. All is stored remotely. MoneyWiz doesn’t store your online banking credentials, just a security key to authenticate you with SaltEdge.
4-6. You can refer to SaltEdge’s privacy policy here:
      https://www.saltedge.com/pages/privacy_policy

      Reply
      • Its not clear if you meant the SaltEdge security key is held on Moneywiz servers or within the app – if its on your servers then that raises questions of how that is stored and secured too. SaltEdge is a company I’ve not heard of before either. Are they in use by other major companies already? Do they undergo any regular independent security audits? And whilst I don’t personally need to know where they store the data, I would want to know that you do and you are satisfied they have undertaken the due diligence to store it securely. My personal feeling is that I would need a much higher level of transparency into how the infrastructure at MoneyWiz and SaltEdge are both kept secure before I could use this service. I can appreciate you might not have that detail to hand now, but maybe that’s something you can provide in the future. The ideal system would be where the credentials could be stored locally, handled by the app and sent directly to the banks’ sites, therefore avoiding storing highly sensitive data on third party servers, but of course that requires a bulkier front end app.

        • Hi John,

We’ve just updated our privacy policy with more info on the subject…please check it out:
          http://moneywizapp.com/support/privacy-policy/

On your specific question – the security tokens (which are different from your bank credentials) are stored locally in MoneyWiz and synced via SYNCbits so that you don’t have to re-authenticate each device that you use. On SYNCbits security – check out the privacy policy above 🙂

  • I’m very sad with moneywiz team, because you guys are selling this new version (moneywiz 2) with this online banking integration as a great new feature, but in any moment mentioned that this service is payed separated and worse, the service is very very expensive.

I prefer to entry all the data manually instead pay $5 dollars per month (or $50 dollars a year) for online banking integration.

Too bad moneywiz team … too bad.

    Reply
    • Cedric, you can still enter data manually… MoneyWiz 2 supports all account types from MoneyWiz 1, and just adds 2 new types – Loan accounts and Online Banking. So if you don’t want the online banking, just use MoneyWiz 2 as you used MoneyWiz 1.

      – China Construction Bank
      – ABC (Agricultural Bank of China)
      – Bank of China (BoC)
      – Alipay (not a bank, but…)

      Others that are helpful:
      – China Merchants Bank
      – SPD Bank (Shanghai-Pudong Development Bank)
      – Bank of Communications
      – Postal Savings Bank of China

(If you’ve any doubts about this, consider that these and more are all supported by Apple as payment methods)

    • Hi Daniel,

The problem with Banco do Brazil is that they use Java applet for their website, making it impossible to use traditional techniques to download data. They also don’t have API for it as well. As soon as they change either of these things, we’ll start supporting them.

      Reply
